Umpteen number of times, I have come across strong people, who have the courage to live their lives on their own terms and I truly appreciate them wholeheartedly. The question as to whether living a life just for oneself is better or living a life for others is better is a tough one!
As for me, I believe that real life is one that gives meaning to oneself and to others, which means that a balance between the above two options is what is my calling. Just try living a life fully on your own terms where no one has any expectations from you, where you are the master and totally free to make your own decisions. Believe it or not, you would not totally enjoy such a life because it lacks an important aspect, which is, a feeling of being worthwhile for someone in this lifetime of ours. Now let's look at the other end of the scenario. A life which is totally lived for others, where every decision for you is made by others, where you are a passenger in your own car which is being driven by many other so-called well-wishing drivers! Such a life will give us no real experience of having lived. It is merely an existence, not a life gifted to us.
How to create the so-called balance where everyone is content and expectations are not heavy but they just give us a rightful agenda in life? This is where our inner powers come into play. I call them the 8 hands of our inner Goddess. We all need to bring in certain boundaries whereby the other cannot just push us around as per their terms. It is for us to determine where to draw the line based on the following 8 powers.
So firstly we need the Power to Discern. This power will guide us because discerning right from wrong will help us channelize our energy towards the right. The second power that comes very handy is the Power to Decide because once we know which path is right, we need the power to make the decision to go on that path. Third is the Power to Accommodate because sometimes things won't work our way but accommodating to the change of scenario helps us stay stress-free. Fourth is the Power to Pack-up where-in we need to pack-up our past hurts, negative incidents, and all that is pulling us back. Fifth is the Power to Tolerate because without this power it becomes very difficult to handle different kinds of people & different kinds of situations. Sixth is the Power to Withdraw which is extremely useful. Just like a tortoise withdraws itself into its shell when need be, we should be able to let go or withdraw from situations that may be detrimental to us. Seventh is the Power to Co-operate which makes our life so much easier as it brings in blessings for us to fly higher. Last but not the least is the Power to Face and this one is really needed to balance out any subdued energy creating a perfect balance within us.
